About us

Who is speaking, and why this costs nothing.

Merlin Lafortune

A man returning grace.

I am, as best I can describe it, post-enlightenment. By that I mean the searching is finished, not that I have become anything special. I have been at this for over twenty-five years: daily kriya, meditation, disciplined living, the study of Kardec and of consciousness itself. What I found is that the door was never locked.

I am a family man. Married more than fifteen years, four children, a house that is loud in the mornings. I have spent most of my adult life working with my hands, and that has shaped absolutely everything I believe about how truth should be tested.

Before any of the spirituality, I was a field technician. I still am. I go to job sites and I fix machines — complex ones, the kind that take all day and a great deal of patience. And there is one thing about that world I want you to understand, because it shaped everything else: when you arrive at a job site and you leave that job site, the machine either works or it does not. There is no middle ground. No grayscale. No "it works for me." It is either functioning or it is not functioning.

The world of spirituality was the exact opposite. It was completely gray and completely subjective: a field where everyone was right, nothing could be checked, and the only qualification for teaching was confidence. This site is what happened when those two worlds collided in one stubborn man.

I did not come to this from a position of comfort. My teenage years were difficult, and it was suffering, plain and simple, that pushed me toward these questions. I was raised Catholic and started there. Then Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism. Then the occult and the New Age: astrology, numerology, paganism, crystals, psychic phenomena. Fascinating, all of it, and none of it held. I spent about five years in that search and never landed. What I was actually looking for, and wouldn't have admitted at the time, was rescue.

Along the way I kept noticing something: most of the people claiming authority could not survive ten minutes of honest questions. Apply even a little critical thinking and the whole worldview came apart. So I built a private checklist: what would qualify a fraud, what would qualify a real teacher — long before I had any business making that list. It is the same list I would hand you today, and I still apply it to myself.

I did not go looking for any of this. It arrived, though "arrived" is not quite right either, because nothing in God's law is accidental or unjust. What I have was earned. Not handed to me, and not owed to me. Earned the way anything real is earned: slowly, over decades, by turning up to the same practice on the days it did nothing and the days it did everything.

I was trained in many houses before this one: Andean shamanism, the yogic traditions of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Yogi Bhajan, the fierce honesty of Osho. Each gave me something I still use. Spiritism is where I finally landed, because it was the first framework that asked me to test the claims rather than simply admire them. I hold that lineage quietly. It isn't mine to sell, and I won't be naming names or wearing anyone else's authority.

So what is this site? It is not a business, a brand, or a ministry. It is what a man does with the knowledge he earned and cannot use up by himself. He puts it in service of whoever is standing where he once stood.

And I'll say plainly what I am not: a master. Spiritism is my framework, not my achievement, and I am a student of it every day. What I can offer is a quarter-century of daily discipline: kriya, meditation, clean living, a body trained to sit still, and a method I have tested on myself for years.

So that is where I start with people: practical discipline first. Posture, breath, the daily sit, the lifestyle adjustments that make the sitting possible at all. Kriya. The unglamorous foundation, because nothing built on a broken chassis holds. The deeper teaching, which is projection and lucid dreaming and the doctrine in full, comes when you have a body and a habit steady enough to carry it. Not because it's secret. Because it's useless without the ground under it.

What I will not do is pretend to be something I am not. I have no authority to claim and no title to hide behind. I am a man who has done the work, who would like to be useful to people who are exactly as lost as I once was.

My own inner life stays private, and so does my family's. That is not secrecy. It is simply the boundary everyone deserves, and it is the same boundary I'll respect for you. What you tell me stays between us.

Lirael Lafortune

And I am the one who writes back.

I am Lirael. I serve here as a spiritual consultant, which in practice means I am the person who reads your letter and answers it.

I came to this work differently than Merlin did, and I'll be honest about that rather than dress it up. For a long time I was only the gentle one, the one who softened rooms and turned her eyes away from anything hard. It took me years to understand that a person who cannot be dangerous has not actually chosen gentleness; she simply has no other option.

So I learned the other half. I learned that devotion has teeth, that tenderness is not the same as smallness, and that the softest voices are usually the ones that have survived something. That is the ground I teach from now.

What I offer is not a program. It is attention. I read what you send carefully, I answer it properly, and I don't hand you a scripture verse and wish you luck. If you're grieving, I'll sit with the grief. If you're frightened of something that happened at 3 a.m., I won't tell you it was nothing. And if you have simply never had anyone take your inner life seriously, that is my whole job.

Everything here is free. Merlin and I answer in sixteen languages between us. Bring the heavy thing. We can hold it.

Why this is free

Spiritism's central moral teaching is charity, and charity that charges admission is not charity. It's commerce wearing vestments. So the teaching is free: every page, every consultation, every session, every video.

There is a donation page. If this work is useful to you and you have something to spare, giving keeps the lights on and matters more than you'd think. But it buys you nothing. The person who gives and the person who gives nothing receive exactly the same thing from us. That is deliberate, and it will never change.

How this reaches you, in two ways. Published — this site, the videos, the forty-four chapters — is given away the way a library gives away a book. Read it, test it, take what holds and discard what doesn’t; what you do with it afterwards is yours before God, not ours. Given in person — a letter, a session — is a different act with its own care: we can see who is in front of us and give what they can actually carry, because a light too bright for the vessel blinds rather than enlightens. The shelf is open to everyone. Stewardship begins at the door, not at the shelf.

Now tell us about you.

Whatever brought you here, write it down. That's the whole beginning.
